Selection of magazines produced in Canada in visual arts

 

The number of periodic publications (journals, magazines, newsletters, etc..) in visual arts is considerable.  Ulrich's International Periodicals lists over 5,500 current titles worldwide, including nearly 140 titles only for Canada.

Titles presented here are therefore a selection of the most popular if not the most interesting titles published in this country.

Notes to the following table :

  • Some of these titles are available "online" either directly (full text), or after subscription to the print title (if available) version or through a specialized database.  See our "Search Tools" section for this purpose.
  • The COVID episode had a devastating impact on many Canadian magazine publishers.  It is quite possible that some of the titles identified here no longer exist.   Please let us know.
  • The Art Canada Institute/Institut de l'art canadien makes available in full text (read online or download) a collection of mostly biographical monographs on Canadian art and its major historical artists.   As of today (September 2023), some sixty titles have been published.   Titles are available in both French and English.
